Chronic illness affects more people than just those afflicted with the illness. Family and friends are also involved with coping with the illness and helping the ill person manage their life. They also grieve for the losses of their loved one.

Sometimes it can be very difficult to keep that chin up and keep going for their sake when what you want to do is let go of your own feelings!

You should realize there is help out there for wonderful caregivers as well. You need to talk it out, learn to cope, and grieve, too. Your needs are different than those of the ill person, but still should be addressed!
Several national organizations for specific chronic illnesses have their own caregiver support groups, which you may not be aware of. I have referenced a few here to help get you started.

And even though the chronic illness may be different, a lot of times, the caregiving process and emotional responses to an illness are very similar. So if you do not see something here that mentions your specific situation, try the others just to see if they can somehow lend a supportive hand to you anyway, and you can pick up a few tips on how to make it through your crisis.
