Prayer to St. Luke, Patron of Physicians Most charming and saintly Physician, you were animated by the heavenly Spirit of love. In faithfully detailing the humanity of Jesus, you also showed his divinity and his genuine compassion for all human beings. Inspire our physicians with your professionalism and with the divine compassion for their patients. Enable them to cure the ills of both body and spirit that afflict so many in our day. Amen. |

Prayer to Sts. Cosmas and Damian, Patrons of Surgeons Dear twin brothers, you both died as witnesses to the Lord you loved. Sometimes you miraculously healed the ailing bodies of your fellow human beings. You also managed to cure the souls that suffered from unbelief and sin. Help surgeons in their delicate work, especially when there exists more danger than usual. Remind them to invoke often the Lord of Life while not forgetting to do their part to save or better the lives of their patients. Amen. |

Lord
Jesus Christ, you are the great Physician of our souls. During
your life on earth, you healed the sick and even brought the dead
back to life.
From your heavenly abode, continue to be the Divine Physician for
your people and bless the noble work to which you have called me.
Make me truly wise in my medical judgments and genuinely
sympathetic in my dealings with patients.
Dear Lord, guide my mind and my hands and inspire me with words of comfort that I may help those suffering. Encourage me in the trials and misery to which I am exposed. Grant that I may ever use my power and influence for good, and let no human respect ever deter me from the performance of my sacred duty in accord with your holy law. Amen.

O merciful Father, who have wonderfully fashioned man in your own image, and have made his body to be a temple of the Holy Spirit, sanctify, we pray you, our doctors and nurses and all those whom you have called to study and practice the arts of healing the sick and the prevention of disease and pain. Strengthen them in body and soul, and bless their work, that they may give comfort to those for whose salvation your Son became Man, lived on this earth, healed the sick, and suffered and died on the Cross. Amen.
