Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Miraculous Medal was given to us by Our Lady to remind us of Her love and protection. When she appeared to Sister Catherine Laboure in Paris on November 27, 1830, Our Lady told Sister Catherine, "Have a medal struck on this model. All who wear it will receive great graces."

On the front of the medal appears Our Lady with Her hands outstretched. The words, "O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee", encircles Her image. On the reverse side, the capital letter M appears with a bar surmounted by a cross, like this:

. Under these is the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Twelve stars frame the images on this side of the medal.

O Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of Our Lord Jesus and our Mother, penetrated with the most lively confidence in your all-powerful and never-failing intercession, manifested so often through the Miraculous Medal, we your loving and trustful children implore you to obtain for us the graces and favors we ask during this novena, if they be beneficial to our immortal souls, and the souls for whom we pray. You know, O Mary, how often our souls have been the sanctuaries of your Son who hates iniquity. Obtain for us then a deep hatred of sin and that purity of heart which will attach us to God alone so that our every thought, word and deed may tend to His greater glory. Obtain for us also a spirit of prayer and self-denial that we may recover by penance what we have lost by sin and at length attain to that blessed abode where you are the Queen of angels and of men. Amen.

You are blessed among all women!
Blessed are you who have believed!
The Mighty One worked marvels for you!
The marvel of your divine motherhood!
And in view of it,
The marvel of your immaculate conception!
The marvel of your "let it be done to me"!
You were so continually associated
to the whole work of our redemption,
associated with the cross of our Savior;
your heart was pierced, at the side of his heart.
And now, in the glory of your Son
you unceasingly intercede for us,
poor sinners.
You watch over the church whose mother you are.

Most Holy Trinity, we put the United States of America into the hands of Mary Immaculate in order that she may present the country to you. She revealed to you her desire that her children wear the Miraculous Medal as a mark of their love for her and in honor of her Immaculate Conception.
