Wedding Prayers of Grace

to Always

O Lord, we thank You for this wonderful gift of our love
which You have generously granted us and which allows us to build a true communion of persons between us---
provided we remain ever open to You, the source of all love.
Help us to continue to love each other and accept each other as we are, unconditionally, as we get to know each other better. Make us generous in giving and humble in receiving.

Enable us to communicate to one another all our joys, sufferings, desiresm and all our hopes, sorrows, and difficulties. Give us the power of your love that we may forget self and live for each other so that we may have truly one spirit, in preparation for the time when you will send us children to add to our union and love. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, help us to love each other as You love your Immaculate Bride, the Church. Bestow on us Christian forebearance and patience in bearing each other's shortcomings. Let no misunderstanding disturb that harmony which is the foundation of mutual help in the many and various hardships of life.

Inspire us to lead truly Christian lives and cooperate with the sacramental grace given us on our wedding day.
Give us the grace to live together in peace and happiness,
slow to speak harshly and quick to forgive each other.
Enable us to rear our children in your love, assist our neighbor after your example, shoulder our rightful civic and religious burdens in union with You, and bear witness to You before our community. Amen.

Prayer at the Marriage of a Son or Daughter

Lord Jesus Christ, You said that on their marriage grown children would leave father and mother and cling to their spouse. Our child has taken this step today, receiving the wonderful Sacrament of Marriage. Watch over him/her in this new life. May this couple find happiness in each other and in You as they raise a new family to your honor and glory. Help me to accept this marriage wholeheartedly with the realization that I am not losing one child, but gaining another. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, by your presence at the wedding feast, You blessed the state of holy matrimony; and by a special token of your love and favor You have raised marriage to the dignity of a sacrament. Grant now that I, together with my wife, may be ever faithful to the marriage vows we have pledged. May all our living bring us closer together in mutual love and in love for You. May no act of ours be ever unworthy in your sight. May we never forget the ends for which matrimony has been instituted. And especially may we never, through selfishness, defile ourselves and our love by unlawful acts of any sort that may displease You.
Teach us to trust in You, to receive the little children You send us, and offer them back to receive your love. Grant us the spiritual and temporal means to rear these children properly. And thus may we deserve your favors, which  we seek in our marriage. May every expression of our love for one another be united to our love for You. When it is necessary to exercise restraint or self control, then above all may our love and respect for one another and our love for You show its true depth. May we then be thoughtful and kind to each other in countless lawful ways. So give us the grace to be strong--- strong in our love for one another, strong in our integrity, strong in respect for our marriage vows, strong in our love for You. Amen.

Let us pray:
May almighty God, with His word of blessing, unite your hearts in the never-ending bond of pure love. May your children bring you happiness, and may your generous love for them be returned to you many times over.

May the peace of Christ live always in your hearts and in your home.  May you have true friends to stand by you, both in joy and in sorrow.  May you be ready and willing to help and comfort all who come to you in need.  And may the blessings promised to the compassionate be yours in abundance.
May you find happiness and satisfaction in your work. May daily problems never cause you undue anxiety, nor the desire for earthly possessions dominate your lives.  But may your heart's first desire be always for the good things waiting for you in the life of heaven.
May the Lord bless you with many happy years together, so that you may enjoy the rewards of a good life.  And after you have served Him loyally in His kingdom on earth, may He welcome you to His eternal kingdom in heaven.
And may Almighty God bless you. Amen.
