Prayers for Today's Modern World

Listen to Let There Be Peace on Earth to Let There Be Peace on Earth

For the World: A Litany of Modern Ills
From the hunger and unemployment, and from forced eviction:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From unjust sentences and unjust wars:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From neglect by parents, neglect by children, and neglect by callous
institutions:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From cancer and stroke, ulcers, madness and senility:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From famine and epidemic, from pollution of the soil, the air, and the
waters:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From segregation and prejudice, from harassment, discrimination and
brutality:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From the concentration of power in the hands of ignorant, threatened or
hasty leaders:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From propaganda, fads, frivolity and untruthfulness:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From arrogance, narrowness and meanness, from stupidity and pretence:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From boredom, apathy and fatigue, from lack of conviction, from fear,
self-satisfaction and timidity:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From the consequences of our own folly:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

From resignation and despair, from cynicism and manipulation:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

Through all unmerciful suffering, our own and that of others:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

Through the unending cry of all peoples for justice and freedom:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

Through all concern and wonder, love and creativity:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

In our strength and in our weakness, in occasional success and eventual
failure:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

Alone and in community, in the days of action and the time of our dying:
        Good Lord, deliver us.

Deliver us, Good Lord, by opening our eyes and unstopping our ears, that we
may hear Your Word and do Your Will:
        Good Lord, deliver us.  Amen.

Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
>
Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before You. We are yours, and yours we wish to be;
but to be more surely united with You, behold each one of us freely
consecrates himself today to your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have
never known You; many, too, despising your precepts, have rejected You.
Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to
your Sacred Heart.

Be King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken You,
but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned You;
grant that they may quickly return to their Father's house,
lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

Be King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and the unity of faith,
so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.

Grant, O Lord, to your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give tranquillity of order to all nations; make the earth
resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the Divine Heart
that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor forever.
Amen.

Prayer of the Angels

Prayer taught to the 3 children at Fatima by an angel during one of the apparitions.

O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners. Amen.

A Prayer for Understanding

Father in heaven, help me understand the needs of those who struggle every day to stand tall against the world's pain. Help me find a way to give hope to those who have turned to alcohol or drugs for survivial.

Help me teach the children the lessons of life that will shape their future, body, mind, and soul. Help me feed the poor and elderly, too proud to say that they have not eaten today. Help me look inside myself and see that all mankind is one. And, grant me the strength to understand that I can make a difference. Amen.

Prayer for the Salvation of the World

Father, hear our prayers for the salvation of the world. Grant Mercy to all souls that turned away from You. Open their hearts and minds with Your light. Gather Your children from the east and the west, from the north and the south. Have mercy O God on those who do not know You. Bring them out of darkness into Your light. You are our saving God who leads us in our salvation. Protect us from evil. Bless and praise You O Lord; hear our prayers and answer us. You, our Savior, are the hope of all the ends of the Earth and the distant seas. May Your way be known upon Earth; among all nations Your salvation. We put the world in Your Hands; fill us with Your love. Grant us peace through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
